I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of your letter dated the 18th instent in which you are kind enough to propose that shipment of any opium to Formose will not be allowed in future unless it has my express consent

and also to suggest a certain form, in which such consent should be addressed to the Honourable Superintendent of

Imports and Exports.

In reply I beg leave to state that I have taken note of your proposition, conformably to which I will

act in future.
